AT&T Ignores Do-Not-Call list (210-246-7894)

Despite being on the Do Not Call list (both National and with the state of Texas), I continue to get hang up calls from 210-246-7894. They continue to call me throughout the and hang up as soon as we answer. My Caller ID says AT&T every time.

I started to keep a log of the times they have called. Twice now I have called the number back, went through their automated phone system (press 5 for Texas, press 3 for other cities in Texas, then leave a message as to why I am calling).

I was called from 210-246-7894 the following times:

3/12/07 12:24PM - I called back and left a message to be removed on 3/12/07 6:04PM
3/16/07 12:52PM - I called back and left a message to be removed on 3/16/07 5:08PM 3/20/07 2:54PM - I again called back and left a message on 3/20/07 6:45PM
3/22/07 4:32PM
3/24/07 3:00PM
3/29/07 12:44PM
3/30/07 5:31PM

As noted on numerous websites, such as:
http://whocalled.us/lookup/2102467894
http://www.complaints.com/directory/2004/june/4/28.htm
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/collection-agencies/about14259.html
This is not a new business practice for ATT, the company that owns 210-426-7894.

I have filed formal complaints on the Texas Do Not Call page (http://www.texasnocall.com/) as well as on the National Do Not Call page (https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx) as they continue to call my home phone number.

I also e-mailed the FCC (donotcall@fcc.gov), the Texas Public Utility Commission (customer@puc.state.tx.us) and the Texas Attorney General (cac@oag.state.tx.us).

On 3/29/07, I received a letter from the Texas PUC that basically acknowledges my e-mail but fails to say how they are going to pursue my complaint. Just a basic "thanks... good luck" letter. I received an e-mail from the Texas Attorney General's office that told me "Your letter has been forwarded to the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) for review. CPD monitors business practices and determines priorities for enforcement. When appropriate, CPD takes action to stop violations of Texas consumer protection laws."

eBay Catalog ignores removal request

So as I posted about previously, I followed all the instructions eBay told me to in order to remove my mailing address from their eBay Catalog. I had skepticism that it would actually work.

Today, I received another eBay Catalog in the mail. It says "Spring 2007" on the cover, though it is different than the previous one I received. *sigh*

Marked it as "Return to Sender" yet again and threw it back in the mail.

Misleading: Southwest Airlines doesnt fly to Hawaii

So I earned a free round trip ticket on Southwest. Im thinking.. hey! Lets go to Hawaii. Southwest Airlines falsely advertises no-restrictions on Rapid Reward destinations. Here are the details [pdf]:
Southwest Airlines
P.O. Box 36647 - 1CR
Dallas, Texas 75235-1647

Re: Rapids Rewards Acct # xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello:

I like flying Southwest Airlines. Over the past year, I earned enough credits for a free round trip ticket on Southwest – something I intentionally did so I could surprise my wife with a second honeymoon.

When I received the award, I logged onto my account at Southwest.com and saw the attached congratulations notice (attachment 1). However I had difficulty booking a flight online because it kept saying I did not have enough credits for the award I was reserving. When I called in to the 1-800 number, I asked about it and they said yes, the award is valid for anywhere Southwest flies except Hawaii. I said show me where it says “except Hawaii” in the award notification below. It clearly says, not once, but twice, “anywhere you can fly on Southwest Airlines”. Even in the fine print is says “one (1) roundtrip flight to any published city on Southwest-operated flights.”

The woman on the phone apologized, but none the less you are falsely advertising this award. I wanted to see where you mention "except Hawaii" on your website.

On the first screen when I log into my Southwest Airlines account, I see this statement: "Rewards are easier in a world without miles. Fly just 8 roundtrips or receive 16 credits in 24 months and we'll give you a roundtrip valid to any of the more than 60 destinations we serve. Rapid Rewards – live without miles!" (attachment 2). No mention of destination restrictions there.

When I dig into the rules of the award, you do mention in a few places (but not all) that ATA codeshared flights to Hawaii will require two awards. This information absolutely needs to be stated EVERYWHERE you mention "anywhere Southwest flies" since when I am booking a reservation, I have NO INDICATION whether this is a Southwest flight or a codeshared flight (nor should I care). It is misleading and irresponsible to suggest I can fly anywhere Southwest flies when you fully know that is not true-codeshared or not.

I am deeply disappointed in Southwest Airlines for this misleading practice. I doubt it was intentional - probably some rogue marketing director more than anything - but it exists none-the-less. And because of it, I will seriously consider switching back to American Airlines for all of my travel.
