Update on Puppy and Bakery

So much has happened in the past few weeks in both bakery and puppy areas that we have been swamped and havent had much time to post an update. But alas, the calm before the storm allows me a few minutes to do just that.

First off... puppy. Little Maddie, for all she has been through, went back to the vet for her followup checkup. Add a couple more things to the list of ailments. Coccidia. Kennel Cough. But even with all these problems, all the medicine (now currently only has one remaining.. for kennel cough), in the past few weeks, Maddie has shown very few signs of problems. She is 100% puppy -- hopping around, nipping at everything, jumping all over the other dogs, ignoring all of our commands (ha!), and eating and drinking like a champ. She hasnt had an accident in the house in over a week; she pees a little bit when she gets excited to see us, but other than, everything has been outside. She is still a bit aggressive with the other dogs, who so far have tolerated her, but we dont let it happen without interrupting. So as of now, little Maddie has beaten the odds. Incredible.

Now the Bakery. I havent mentioned a lot about the bakery before on here, so lets get you caught up. Since we were in Redlands, CA, Ann has wanted to open up a bakery of her own. Cakes, cookies, brownies, you know.. cute stuff. We moved to Austin and picked up the location search again. We have been looking for a location for about 16 months now; they either kept falling through or the deals were just mediocre. About a month ago, we found a location very close to our house where the owners wanted to sell their assets. We jumped at the chance, and long story short, we agreed to purchase their assets (the company the owned) in August 2007. Monday, August 20, we officially take over their business. We have plans to expand the kitchen, hours, and menu in late 2007/early 2008 to incorporate the bakery items Ann has dreamed of. We'll then change the name. So after all this time waiting, Ann finally has her place!

Buying a business and taking control of it in a matter of weeks is quite a busy endeavor. We inherit four employees, so we are now responsible for employer taxes, sales taxes, utilities, inventory, worker's comp... Ann will work there full time learning everything about the how the place runs while she develops her new ideas when we expand the kitchen. Lots to do!

So we havent slept much lately. My mom will come visit for a few weeks, her second time in Austin, and Ann's dad is coming back from Thailand next month to help wherever he can. We will have a full house (to add to the stress) full of dogs and people. Lets hope we keep our head above water!
